The unforeseen ~ that thing that no matter how careful you were or how hard you tried to prepare for…happens anyway.

Of course, you create contingency plans ~ but, you do so with the expressed desire that you never have to actually use them, but then…you get that telegram (ooops! wrong century), but then…your cell phone rings and it’s one of your suppliers telling you that their quality control measures for an ingredient that they shipped to you ~ failed and now their headache is your headache.  This is the exact scenario that recently happened to us at Vibrant Health.

You see, even though the ingredient in question (Organic Parsley Leaf) amounts to just 2.07% of a serving of our Green Vibrance and 3.26% of a serving of our Rainbow Vibrance we still couldn’t stand by and not act immediately when we found out that there was even a remote possibility that there might be a quality issue. We stand behind our products as a company dedicated to your health and wellness not, to possibly make you sick. We put our principles into action – Truth, Trust, Transparency. So we pulled the product off shelves and out of the marketplace. 

We did this not because anyone told us to.  Even having unknowingly used a small amount of potentially tainted organic parsley leaf, our products were not found to be of concern to the FDA and have no FDA warnings. In fact, in our 22 year history of manufacturing some of the highest quality nutritional supplements that you will find anywhere in the world, we have never had a single incident involving either our ingredients or our products.  This has been our mission.

The contaminant that we were concerned about was Salmonella. In fact, since we found out about that possibility, 21 analyses have been run on the organic parsley leaf in question as well as, on our finished products containing it. Absolutely no contamination whatsoever was found.

To date no customer using the products has had complaints related to any of the suspected lot numbers. Just Luck? No, this was due more-so to our own strong in-house quality control measures.

We test all of our products not once, not twice but, three times before they leave our door.

To begin with, each of our suppliers is carefully selected and evaluated based on their reputation, availability and quality.  Quality is based on existing documentation of the ingredient itself. We thoroughly review their Certificate of Analysis (COA) which tests the ingredient for microbiology (like yeast, e. coli salmonella and staff bacteria, mold, and fungus) and heavy metals (like arsenic, lead, mercury, aluminum, etc.).

Once a supplier has passed our rigorous evaluation, their ingredient is sent to our manufacturer where it is also tested for identity and a second COA is done. Levels have to be below a certain threshold as determined by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) and American Public Health Association (APHA) which set the standards for quality of ingredients globally. Our manufacturer will reject an ingredient if levels of any of the above are too high.

After that ingredient has been identified and its levels are accepted, it goes into storage at our manufacturer site until production begins. All of our products are produced in FDA inspected, cGMP facilities in order to guarantee their quality and safety. At the time of actual production, again our ingredients are screened to be certain that no foreign material is present. Then they go into a pre-blending room where they are carefully measured according to the requirements to create our unique product formula, then blended and finally bottled. The last step of our production process is to send out each final product for its third testing for a COA and review for any anomalies.  You see, we really do dot our ‘i’s’; cross our ‘t’s’!  And for 22 years we’ve been without incidence.

Okay, so since our testing has shown absolutely No Salmonella, why did we still recall the specific products which used that organic parsley leaf?  Salmonella is a bacterium which can be a little tricky to detect accurately because it doesn’t spread itself uniformly throughout the bulk ingredient or even the through the finished product. So for instance, it can be found in one small, obscure location while being completely absent throughout the rest of the bulk ingredient. Sneaky bacterium!

Our concern was the potential for someone to get Salmonellosis, which is a type of food poisoning caused by the Salmonella enterica bacterium. Young children, older adults and people who have impaired immune systems are the most likely to have severe infections.  Even though the likelihood was slight, we didn’t want to take any chances with your health ~ or ours.  Remember we are Vibrant Health product users just like you, with children, grandchildren, parents, aunts and uncles who all use these products.

How would you know if you had been exposed to salmonellosis? Oh, it’s the kind of infection that gives you very clear symptoms which would have included diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Symptoms develop 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness will usually take 4 to 7 days to release you from misery. Antibiotics aren’t usually needed. Most people recover without treatment and instead keep-up basic management of their symptoms until it passes. Dehydration from the diarrhea is the most common complication. So, on the surface it may not sound dangerous to you but, the diarrhea and dehydration can get to be so severe that it’s necessary to go to the hospital.

We are just not willing to sacrifice quality or safety in order to make a buck. So, even though there was no contamination evident, we moved quickly to protect you, our customer…and we always will.
